Sussex Migration Graduate Conference: call for papers

Sussex Migration Graduate Conference Call for Papers 2015

You are invited to participate in the third annual Sussex Migration Graduate Conference. Building on the success of recent years, the conference provides a forum for doctoral research students at academic institutions across the UK and beyond to exchange ideas, present new work, receive constructive feedback and foster collaborative links with peers across disciplines and institutions. Leading academics in the field of Migration Studies will join us at various moments through the two day conference, after which you are invited to stay for the Sussex Centre of Migration Research’s and Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies annual conference, with keynote talks from Richard Alba and others.

Presentations may be based on recently completed, in progress or planned research broadly related to issues and debates in migration and diversity studies. In particular we would be interested to receive abstract relating to:

  • ‘Problems, challenges and innovation in the study of migration’
  • ‘Migrant lives, experiences and emotion’
  • ‘Political and policy dimensions of migration’

The conference will take place over one and half days: Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th March 2015 and participants are expected to attend both days. Participants will be given 15 minutes to present their work which may include sole or co-authored papers, or poster presentations. Papers will be clustered into sessions with opportunities for questions, answers and discussion in a supportive and constructive environment. Poster presentations will be displayed at the Monday drinks reception.

The deadline for abstracts (maximum 250 words) is midnight Sunday 21st December 2014. Please ensure that the abstract highlights both the content and format of your input. Applicants will be notified about acceptance by January 31st 2015, at which point accepted participants will receive information about travel bursaries and on campus accommodation.

To submit titles and abstracts, to join our mailing list, or for further information, please contact the organising committee at: migphdconf@sussex.ac.uk

We look forward to hearing from you, Migration Graduate Conference 2015 Organising Committee
